MITE signs a MoA with Binghamton University, New York

MITE signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Binghamton University, New York on Wednesday May 7th 2016 at the Binghamton University.

With the agreement the two institutions agree to "foster advancement in teachin, research, academic, collaboration and cultural understanding and to create avenues for enhancing learner experience at both entities, as well as strenegthen both entities by finding ways of combining their complementary resources and strengths.

“I think this is going to be a very prosperous and fruitful relationship ” said Binghamton President Harvey Stenger. “Educating students is a great place to start and having the opportunities to collaborate on research make this a partnership that I am very much looking forward to.”

Signers of the MoA included Stenger, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Donald Nieman, MITE Chairman Sri Rajesh Chouta and MITE Principal Easwara Prasad. Dean of the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science Krishnaswami "Hari" Srihari and head of the MITE Department of Information Science and Engineering Manjunath Hebbs were also part of the ceremony.

The connection between the two schools started in May 2015 when Prasad contacted Srihari about a partnership. The current agreement came after campus visits by both to both schools and many discussions. Moving forward there will be more visits between administrators and talk about specific areas of collaboration.

“We are looking at how we can collaborate on research and bringing proposals together,” said Srihari. “Of course, education is of utmost importance, but MITE is also very active in participation in industry which could be another area to explore.”
