The Team were awarded at the All India Eco-Kart 2017 competition held at BML Munjal University, Gurgaon, Haryana. The award was given for the design of the eco Car developed by the MITE Students for the ‘aerodynamic curved body structure and virtuous aesthetic appearance with sportive features’. The Team ‘Octon’ consisting of students from Mechatronics Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering department participated in the All India Design and Development of Eco friendly car Competition – Eco-Kart 2017. The students were guided by Dr. M Lokesh, Professor, Dept of Mechanical Engineering and Mr. Sathyanarayan, Head, Dept of Mechatronics Engineering.
About Eco-Kart Event:
Eco kart 2017 is a national event for students pursuing engineering degree/diploma. The competition is to design and fabricate a single passenger Kart which is operated via a battery. This is the IV season of the competition. The Competition will not only help students build interest towards automobiles, but also help them incorporate team work and management skills within themselves. The problem statement is such that every team is compelled to do rigorous hard work and think out of the box, thus, new innovations are likely to grow in the automobile sector. The event was conducted at BML Munjal University(BMU), Gurgaon, Haryana.
The eco-friendly kart was evaluated in three different stages:
- Initial stage of evaluation: Qualifier round for the main event was completely online through video conference. In this level, the teams were evaluated for project planning and optimisation concepts to proceed for the next level. Our team OCTON Racing performed well in the virtual round acquiring very good score and got eligibility to dynamic round. In this level, among 103 teams only 54 teams were eligible for next level of evaluation.
- College level Technical Inspection evaluation: In college level, a technical inspection was conducted. The kart satisfied all the required parameters as per the rule book of Eco kart 2017 and got eligibility to the dynamic round
- Final stage of design evaluation: In the dynamic round, the team OCTON kart cleared and got appreciation from the event organizers. In this level of evaluation, 54 Karts were scrutinized; the team OCTON of MITE students are awarded for the best design with the title as BEST DESIGN- ECO KART 2017 with CASH PRICE of RS. 15,000/-for the aerodynamic curved body structure and virtuous aesthetic appearance with sportive features.
