          Program Outcomes (POs)

          1. PO1 (Foundation Knowledge): Apply knowledge of mathematics, programming logic and coding fundamentals for solution architecture and problem solving.

           

          1. PO2 (Problem Analysis): Identify, review, formulate and analyse problems primarily focussing on customer requirements using critical thinking frameworks.

           

          1. PO3 (Development of Solutions): Design, develop and investigate problems with as an innovative approach for solutions incorporating ESG/SDG goals.

           

          1. PO4 (Modern Tool Usage): Select, adapt and apply modern computational tool such as development of algorithms with an understanding of the limitations including human biases.

          Eligibility

          Passed BCA/ Bachelor Degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent Degree

          OR

          Passed B.Sc/ B.Com./ B.A. with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduation Level (with additional bridge Courses as per the norms of the concerned University) Obtained at lease 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.

          For admissions under PGCET qualification and Roaster system of Government of Karnataka:

          There shall be an Entrance Examination (PGCET) for admission to the MCA Programmer. A Candidate seeking admission to MCA Programme shall appear for this examination. For admission under Government quota, ranks obtained in PGCET entrance exam, conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) shall be considered.

          For admission under Management Quota:

          The candidates should have appeared for the Entrance Examination conducted by KEA (PGCET)/ Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) or appeared and qualified under any approved entrance Examination conducted by the authority recognized by Government of Karnataka/ VTU.

          Department of MCA is Supported by a Department Advisory Board (DAB) in its functioning. This board helps the department in formulating action plans for the future.

          The Department Advisory Board for the Department of MCA for the year 2023-24 consists of:

           

          Dr. Madhwaraj K G is a Professor & Head, Department of Master of Computer Applications at MITE. He has more than 28 years of experience in academics and research put together. His areas of interests include software engineering, predictive modeling, machine learning etc…Dr. Madhwaraj K G has presented many papers in prestigious conferences, journals and patents. He has guided and obtained grants from KSCST, Government of Karnataka on a few student projects. He is a reviewer for many International conferences and has given several technical talks on Software testing, Generative AI and Machine Learning. He was invited as  a Jury member for SAP Hackfest 2024 that was held at PSG Tech, Coimbatore. He holds a PhD from Anna University, an M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, M.Phil from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, a Master’s degree MCA from the University of Madras and a Bachelor’s degree B.Sc from Bharathidasan University. He is at present working in MITE since a year.

          Professor Prashanth C M a distinguished academician with 26 years of Teaching, Research and Administrative experience, is the Principal of MITE. Professor Prashanth C.M has received his master’s degree from VIT Vellore in the year 2002 and Ph.D. from National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal in the year 2011. He is a member of various professional bodies such as the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), System Society of India (SSI), International Association of Engineers (IAENG) and Computer Society of India (CSI). He has received his Ph.D in Computer Science & Engineering for the doctoral work on “Software Model Verification” and has worked at various levels in his previous stint. Professor Prashanth has 23+ research publications, 01 Indian patent (published) and has guided/guiding Ph.D. students. He has visited many countries on different academic assignments and has been organizing chair, chaired sessions at various International and National conferences in India and abroad. He has also served VTU as a member of Board of Examiners during 2012-13 for two consecutive terms. He has professional & research interests in Embedded Systems, IOT, Social Computing, and High-Performance Computing.

          Mr. Harish N is a Founder and Managing Director, Accolade Tech Solutions, Mangalore. As a MD, he effectively leads a team of over 25 employees across two locations, focusing on executive leadership, training, and public relations. His strategic vision drives the company’s ambitious business strategies and goals. Beyond his professional role, Mr. Harish is an active member of the Indian Red Cross Society D.K District and the Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He is committed to sharing his expertise, having delivered over 50 technical talks and organized more than 15 hands-on workshops for UG and PG Computer Science students in Dakshina Kannada District.

          Dr. Anushree Raj is a distinguished academic and researcher with a strong foundation in computer science and data analytics. She earned her Ph.D. in Big Data Anonymization and DNA Computing from Visvesvaraya Technological University. Prior to this, she completed her MCA at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK). She is an active member of IEEE, ISTE, SCRS, IAENG technological associations and also identified as BOS and BOE member in various institutes. She currently serves as a Senior Assistant Professor at the Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), where she also coordinates Research and Development for the MCA department. Her previous roles include leadership positions at esteemed institutions such as St. Joseph Engineering College, Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, and REVA University Bangalore. Dr. Raj’s research work is highly regarded, reflected in her publications, grants, project proposals, patents and citations. Her research interests span Quantum computing, Data Anonymization, DNA Computing, AIML, and Bioinformatics. Her interdisciplinary approach is showcased in her work published in journals like IEEE and Springer and also won Best Paper Awards. She has also successfully patented her innovative ideas, which covers diverse technological advancements, further solidifying her reputation as an innovator in her field.

          Ms. Shwetha V Bhat is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of MCA. With over 12 years of experience in teaching and 1 year of industry experience, she has established herself as a dedicated educator and a valuable contributor to her institution. She pursued her Master’s degree at St. Joseph Engineering College and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she plays an active role as one of the college website coordinators, Departmental NAAC coordinator, and Association Coordinator, among various other responsibilities at the institutional level. Shwetha has also been a coordinator for several Hackfest events, hands-on workshops, and other significant academic activities. Her primary research interests lie in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning.

          Ms. Sadhana K is a dedicated educator with over 16.5 years of experience as an Assistant Professor in the field of information technology and computer science. Holding an M.Tech in IT and a Master of Computer Applications, she has consistently demonstrated a passion for continuous learning and a keen interest in emerging technologies. Sadhana’s expertise is further enriched by her numerous certifications in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science. She has also made significant contributions to academic research and played key roles in institutional initiatives, including serving as the NBA Coordinator and Autonomy Coordinator.

          Mr. Ragesh Raju, an Assistant Professor at MITE, has over 12.5 years of academic and industry experience. He is passionate about gamification in education, focusing on strategies to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. Raju has organized and conducted numerous sessions, workshops, webinars, and talks, benefiting educators and learners across Mangaluru, Tamil Nadu, and Mumbai. His contributions to the academic community include published papers in international journals and a successful patent filing. Raju is also a Google Certified Educator and Wipro Certified Faculty, demonstrating his dedication to continuous learning and professional development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics & Electronics and a dual Masters Degree in MCA & MBA.

            The computer laboratories at MITE has excellent, state-of-the-art infrastructure having more than 250 Dual core/Core2 Duo systems. All systems are interconnected through LAN having sophisticated servers and internet connectivity with adequate bandwidth. All the laboratories have requisite software for undertaking all kinds of latest projects.

            Major Labs

            Data Structures Lab/ Database Application Lab
            The lab is equipped with 36 personal computers with latest configurations. PCs are installed with Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04, JAVA packages, Anaconda and latest browsers. The students use this lab to conduct data structure and algorithms related experiments, Students conduct database related experiments, also carry out mini projects.

             

            Web Programming Lab / Computer Networks Lab
            The lab is equipped with 60 personal computers with latest configurations. PCs are installed with Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04,  MySql, Code blocks and latest browsers., various experiments in web technology , network simulators like NS2 and latest browsers. Students use this lab to conduct network related experiment.

             

            Machine Learning Lab/ Python Lab
            The lab is equipped with 36 personal computers with latest configurations. PCs are installed with Ubuntu 18.04 with Bison package, JAVA, PYTHON and latest browses. The students carry out LEX, YAAC and operating systems related experiments. Machine Learning related experiments are also conducted in this lab.

             

            Project Lab
            The lab is equipped with 36 personal computers with latest configurations. PCs are installed with Ubuntu 18.04 and network simulators like NS2 and latest browsers and also for carry out projects.

            Department Forum

            Department Forum

            The Department of MCA has been supporting its students by participating in Curricular and Co–Curricular activities. ACAS(Association of Computer Application Specialists), was established on 02nd March 2024. All the students of MCA department are the members of the ACAS Forum. ACAS was founded with a view of giving a new dimension to the present education system.

            This Forum provides ample opportunity for students to discover and exhibit technical skills, presentation skills, and communication skills in organizing various events. It gives wide exposure to the students to express and share technical knowledge and also gives a view of department activities, achievements of staff and students. Under ACAS forum, the Class Toppers and University rank holders are felicitated with certificates of appreciation and cash rewards.
