Workshop on ‘Mechatronics Product Design- an Approach towards Qualitative Design Methodology’

The Department of Mechatronics Engineerintg conducted a Two Day workshop on ‘Mechatronics Product Design- an Approach towards Qualitative Design Methodology’ during Nov 7-8, 2024. Mr. Jishnu Mulachan , Technical Director and Co-Founder, Zilliot Technologies Pvt Ltd, Mangalore was the Resource Person for the Workshop.

Mr. Jishnu Mulachan, a seasoned professional in mechatronics engineering and Technical Director at Zilliot Technologies Pvt Ltd, Mangalore, provided insights into the complexities of mechatronic product design, focusing particularly on a qualitative design methodology. It delves into the role of simulation and PCB design software—specifically LTSpice and KiCad—in supporting robust product development in the mechatronics domain. Mechatronics combines mechanical, electronic, computer, and control engineering, making it a highly interdisciplinary field. Effective design in mechatronics requires seamless integration between these components to achieve a cohesive and functional product. Mr. Mulachan’s approach emphasizes an iterative, user-focused methodology that prioritizes usability and functionality over technical specifications alone.

The Day One of the Workshop covered the Core Concepts in Mechatronics Product Design. Mr. Mulachan’s briefed about the design approach that starts with a strong foundation in interdisciplinary integration, User Centric Design and Iterative Refinement.
The Day Two focused on the Qualitative Design Methodology. The Qualitative design methodology, as advocated by Mr. Mulachan, is a structured approach aimed at achieving an end product that truly resonates with users. This method relies on iterative design, feedback loops, and extensive validation.

Mr. Mulachan’s presentation provided a comprehensive overview of qualitative design methodology for mechatronic products. By focusing on user needs, iterative refinement, and stringent quality assurance, Mr. Mulachan demonstrates how a user-centered approach yields highly functional and reliable mechatronic products.
