Peer learning session on “Effective Teaching & Learning”

The MITE Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a peer learning session titled “Effective Teaching and Learning” on 11th October 2025 at 2:15 PM. The session was conducted as part of the Two-Day Faculty Induction and Orientation Program titled “Fostering Academic Excellence and Professional Development.” The event aimed to encourage reflective teaching practices and promote collaborative learning among faculty members to enhance pedagogical effectiveness and student engagement.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Aveen K. P, Assistant Professor, Department of Robotics & Artificial Intelligence, and Ms. Deepthi Kotian, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, MITE. Both resource persons shared valuable insights into innovative teaching methodologies and their experiences in implementing learner-centred strategies in the classroom. Their discussion revolved around integrating technology and creativity into teaching to make learning more interactive and meaningful.

The session emphasized that effective teaching extends beyond the traditional delivery of content. It involves thoughtful planning, engagement, and continuous reflection to create enriching learning experiences that inspire curiosity and foster lifelong learning. Faculty participants were encouraged to adopt active and student-centred learning techniques such as think–pair–share, case studies, role plays, and project-based learning to enhance learner participation, motivation, and critical thinking. The discussion highlighted the need for flexibility and adaptability in teaching styles to cater to diverse learning preferences.

One of the key aspects covered in the session was the importance of feedback and assessment as integral components of the learning process. The facilitators stressed that constructive and timely feedback helps students identify their strengths and areas for improvement, while also providing valuable insights for instructors to refine their teaching approaches. Reflective teaching practices were also emphasized as an essential tool for continuous professional development.

The session further explored the integration of modern technology and artificial intelligence tools in the teaching and research process. Tools such as ChatGPT, Gamma AI, Research Rabbit, and Semantic Scholar were demonstrated as valuable resources to support classroom engagement, enhance content creation, and improve academic productivity. The presenters also showcased how tools like Gamma AI and Draw.io can be utilized to design interactive presentations and visual content, making classroom sessions more engaging and effective.

A total of 19 faculty members participated in the session and actively engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences and best practices. The interactive nature of the session fostered a collaborative environment, allowing participants to exchange ideas and learn from each other’s teaching experiences. The session concluded with an appreciation of the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in teaching, reaffirming the collective commitment of MITE faculty to uphold excellence in education.

The event was effectively coordinated by Dr. Aveen K. P, Assistant Professor and TLC Coordinator, Department of Robotics & Artificial Intelligence, MITE, Moodabidri. The session proved to be a valuable platform for faculty members to gain new perspectives on innovative pedagogy and reaffirm their dedication to fostering student success through dynamic and effective teaching practices.
