The MITE Incubation Center, in association with the Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering, organized a two-day workshop on “Smart Factory Automation using PLC & Factory I/O” on 06th and 07th April 2026. The workshop aimed to provide students with practical exposure to industrial automation and smart manufacturing technologies. A total of 56 students from the Department of Robotics & AI actively participated in the program, making it an engaging and application-oriented learning experience.
The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Bharath T S, Director of iRobo Automation Pvt. Ltd., who is an industry expert in automation technologies and industrial control systems. With extensive experience in PLC programming, industrial system integration, and smart factory solutions, he brought valuable industry insights to the session. His expertise in implementing real-time automation systems and training students in industry-relevant tools enabled participants to gain a clear understanding of modern industrial practices and automation workflows.
The workshop focused on providing both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in smart factory and industrial automation concepts. Participants were introduced to PLC programming using IndraLogic and gained practical exposure to simulating real-time industrial systems using Factory I/O software. The sessions included the development of control logic for conveyor systems and automation processes, along with applications such as sorting and pick-and-place systems. The hands-on approach helped students understand the practical implementation of automation in real-world industrial scenarios.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Aveen K P, Assistant Professor and TLC Coordinator, Department of Robotics & AI. The workshop concluded successfully with active participation and enthusiastic engagement from students. Overall, the program served as an effective platform for experiential learning, enhancing students’ technical skills and preparing them for careers in industrial automation and smart manufacturing domains.![]()
