Workshop on “The Business Spectrum: Unlocking Finance, Marketing & HR”
Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), Moodabidri organized a thought-provoking workshop titled “The Business Spectrum: Unlocking Finance, Marketing & HR” on campus. The workshop conducted by the Department of Management Studies (MBA) was aimed at providing students with comprehensive exposure to the three core business domains. The event featured distinguished speakers Dr. Praveen Kamath, General Manager HR, Prof. Sunder Ram Korivi from Indian Institute of Corporate Affaris and Mr. Shyam Nadig, from Sigmoid, who enlightened MBA students with their industry insights.
Dr. Praveen Kamath spoke about converting subject knowledge into practical skills through dedicated effort. He highlighted the importance of key HR skills such as interviewing, storytelling, relationship-building, and technological proficiency. Stressing ethical behaviour, he reminded students that life after graduation requires preparation and self-reliance. He encouraged them to utilize the learning environment in college to prepare for success in life.
Mr. Shyam Nadig inspired students by emphasizing the mindset of being a “showman” in the professional world. He encouraged them to believe in themselves, raise their hands for any job, and embrace the ever-changing world driven by technology. Highlighting that the world is full of opportunities for those who are ready, he stressed the importance of embracing AI and technology as part of daily life. He emphasized data-based decision-making and the ability to sell oneself as key to success in today’s competitive world. Prof. Sunder Ram Korivi focused on the need for career counselling and advised students to have a clear vision of their future. He explained the distinction between careers in corporate finance and the BFSI sector, stating that corporate finance demands money while BFSI supplies money. He underlined the concept of lifelong learning, urging students to create their own syllabus for life and continuously acquire knowledge.
Chairman Mr. Rajesh Chouta delivered a presidential address, urging students not to let stress and pressure affect them. He advised them to adopt new skills, aim for global careers, and stay ahead by sharpening their abilities. He motivated students to actively participate in club activities to fine-tune their communication skills and strengthen their knowledge in their chosen specializations.
Following the Keynote address by the three esteemed Guests, the workshop had dynamic club led activities designed to explore the practical aspects through Clubs like – Marketing Club, HR club and Finance Club. The final session had three parallel domain-specific tracks for in-depth learning – ‘Deep Insights into the MBA Domains’ by the Experts. These sessions offered the participants a deep understanding of the latest trends, challenges and opportunities within each field.
