World Environment Day 2026

The IGNITIA Science Forum, in association with the Department of Civil Engineering, Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering, organized World Environment Day 2026 on 5th June 2026. The event was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about environmental conservation, sustainability, and the importance of increasing green cover through collective action. A total of 50 first and second-year students actively participated in the programme, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental responsibility and sustainable living.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with officials from the Karnataka Forest Department, Range Forest Office, Moodbidri. The resource persons included Mr. Raghavendra Shetty, Deputy Range Forest Officer (DFO), and Mr. Sandesh, Beat Forester. The Range Forest Office functions under the Karnataka Forest Department and plays a vital role in forestry and afforestation activities through various social forestry initiatives. These initiatives focus on promoting tree plantation and forest conservation beyond traditional forest areas, including educational institutions, community lands, roadsides, and village spaces. Through their work, the department actively encourages public participation in environmental protection and sustainable development practices.

During the session, the forest officials interacted with students and highlighted the environmental challenges faced by society today, emphasizing the urgent need for conservation efforts and sustainable practices. The speakers motivated students to actively participate in creating a greener and healthier future by adopting environmentally responsible behaviours. The programme enhanced awareness about environmental protection, the significance of sustainability, and the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations. Participants also gained a deeper understanding of the role of afforestation and the importance of planting and nurturing saplings to improve ecological balance and increase green cover in the community.

The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Ganesh Mogaveera and Dr. Jyothi S, Conveners, and coordinated by Mr. Suraj Shet and Dr. Mitra K. The programme concluded successfully with active participation from students and served as an effective platform for promoting environmental awareness and encouraging collective action towards a sustainable future.
